In the Dog Bowl

Last week I promised to show you what was there. I knew you wouldn't believe me if I told you. :-)

What is the spiny looking thing? What did your dogs think of the coming?

ROFL - too funny. I love Australia. :-)

That's an echidna- cute little Wombles of the animal world. The other 2 are blue-tongued lizards. And the dog didn't turn a hair. She's old and puts up with my 2 rambunctious sons, so I guess everything else is rather ho-hum by comparison.

I wish I could catch a photo of the bandicoots outside my kitchen window, but they are very shy, quick and nocturnal, so it's hard to photograph them.

I thought that was a hedgehog! Might be related. Those lizards are kind of cool. Do they bite?

No, an echidna is much bigger than a hedgehog (which we don't have here) and is a marsupial, one of only 2 egg-laying marsupials in the world. The other is the platypus.

Blue tongues are placid but if they do bite they can do damage. They crush snail shells with those jaws and they grow pretty big. WOrst thing is they steal my strwberries which I think send them into some kind of delerium- they look spaced out and happy. :-) Oh, and they hiss and make me think they're a snake. Yikes. I HATE snakes.

Interesting photo. You should submit it someplace to be published. National Geographic would love it!

lol- thanks, Mia. I might just do that. The weirdest things happen to me.

I agree with Mia - definitely submit this somewhere!
