That's an echidna- cute little Wombles of the animal world. The other 2 are blue-tongued lizards. And the dog didn't turn a hair. She's old and puts up with my 2 rambunctious sons, so I guess everything else is rather ho-hum by comparison.
I wish I could catch a photo of the bandicoots outside my kitchen window, but they are very shy, quick and nocturnal, so it's hard to photograph them.
No, an echidna is much bigger than a hedgehog (which we don't have here) and is a marsupial, one of only 2 egg-laying marsupials in the world. The other is the platypus.
Blue tongues are placid but if they do bite they can do damage. They crush snail shells with those jaws and they grow pretty big. WOrst thing is they steal my strwberries which I think send them into some kind of delerium- they look spaced out and happy. :-) Oh, and they hiss and make me think they're a snake. Yikes. I HATE snakes.

Now on Sale! - my novella - "Something Blue"
in the Brides and Bouquets anthology at By Grace Publishing
Pastor Nathan Saunders awaits his version of Gideon’s fleece before asking his lifelong love, Petra, to marry him. But the legalistic and wealthy savior of their fishing village, John Peters, asks her first! It’ll take a miracle in the form of an ugly town fountain, an irate Irishman, and some homicidal high heels to prove God really does work in mysterious ways.
"...the last few scenes with the "wedding" were just hysterical and had me laughing out loud. Very well done and extremely well written, Bride's Maid in Heaven is one of those rare finds that you know you will remember for some time to come."

ROFL...too funny. Who knew you were the local watering hole!
Hehehehe :)
OMG! Talk about strange bedfellows.
What is the spiny looking thing? What did your dogs think of the coming?

I thought that was a hedgehog! Might be related. Those lizards are kind of cool. Do they bite?

Interesting photo. You should submit it someplace to be published. National Geographic would love it!
lol- thanks, Mia. I might just do that. The weirdest things happen to me.
I agree with Mia - definitely submit this somewhere!
